History: Roane County’s first library opened in Spencer in 1951 as part of the first regional library program in West Virginia. After being housed in a number of locations through the years, the library in Spencer moved into its current facility in 1976. Since then, branches have been added in Geary and Walton, and the library now serves more than 15,000 residents in Roane County.
